DESCRIPTION AND FEATURES
Product Introduction
What is the RS232 module and what is its function?
The serial port of the single-chip microcomputer must undergo level conversion before it can communicate with the standard RS-232. The conversion chips for 5V are generally MAX232 or SP232, and for 3.3V, they are generally MAX3232 or SP3232.
The RS232 interface is a general serial communication standard, used to establish a reliable communication channel between a computer and external devices to achieve bidirectional data transmission. Through the RS232 interface, a computer can connect with various peripheral devices such as printers, modems, sensors, etc., to realize the control of devices and data exchange.Applicable products: printers, scanners, sensors, etc.
It is commonly used in industrial automation control systems and communication equipment fields.
Key Specification
Spec | Details |
Supply Voltage | 3.0V–5.5V (works with both 3.3V and 5V MCUs—no voltage dividers needed). |
RS232 Output Voltage | ±5.5V (meets RS232 standards—works with all RS232 devices). |
Data Rate | Up to 1Mbps (handles all common RS232 baud rates: 9600, 19200, 115200bps). |
Operating Temperature | -40°C to +85°C (industrial grade—works in garages or freezers). |
ESD Protection | ±15kV (Human Body Model)—safe to handle without anti-static gear (but still be careful). |
Power Use | 5mA active, 1μA shutdown (won’t drain batteries in portable projects). |
Wiring Instructions
Note: For both TTL and RS232 ends, TXD should be connected to RXD and RXD to TXD, with cross – pairing connection.
TTL (UART) end:
- VCC: Connect to DC 3V – 5.5V.
- GND: Connect to GND.
- TXD: Connect to RXD of the TTL end of external equipment.
- RXD: Connect to TXD of the TTL end of external equipment.
RS232 end:
- RXD: Connect to TXD of the RS232 end of external equipment.
- TXD: Connect to RXD of the RS232 end of external equipment.
- GND: Connect to GND.

Main Uses
- MCUs such as single – chip microcomputers and ARM communicate with computers through the computer’s serial port (COM port).
- Radio modification, mobile phone flashing, XBOX360 flashing, GPS, automobile detection, DVD flashing, hard disk maintenance, and set – top box upgrade.
- Serial port expansion of devices.
