DESCRIPTION AND FEATURES

Introduction

This is LM317 adjustable regulated power supply board that uses a linear voltage regulator. Since it’s linear, its efficiency isn’t extremely high — to boost efficiency, there needs to be a 3V voltage difference between input and output. However, the maximum voltage difference between input and output should not exceed 30V.

This module can replace all fixed 3-terminal regulators like the 7805, 7806, 7809, 7812, and 7824. It also works as a car-mounted power supply: just connect the module’s input to your car’s cigarette lighter port, then turn the potentiometer to adjust the output voltage (from 1.25V to 30V) — it can power devices like phones, MP3s, MP4s, and PSPs, making it super simple and convenient.

It’s perfect for powering your electronic devices: if your device needs 1.25V-60V, but you only have a 12V or 24V battery on hand, this module can step the voltage down to 1.25V-30V to solve your problem. It’s also great as a front-end power supply for projects: if your project requires 1.25V-30V but your input voltage is too low, this module is your top choice.

Important Notes

This module uses a linear regulator, so its efficiency isn’t very high. To improve efficiency, you need a 3V voltage difference between the input and output. But the maximum voltage difference between input and output must be less than 30V (like Input – Output ≤ 30V). Otherwise, the module could burn out easily!

Since this is a linear step-down DC-DC circuit, the input voltage must be at least 3V higher than the output voltage to ensure stable output.

Adjustment Steps

  1. First, correctly connect the input power (which should be between 4.5V and 40V).
  2. Use a multimeter to monitor the output voltage, then turn the potentiometer:
    • Turn counterclockwise to increase the voltage.
    • Turn clockwise to decrease the voltage.
  3. When adjusting the voltage, make sure to set the desired voltage before connecting any load!
