Description

A seven-segment display is an electronic module that utilizes LEDs for visualization. By arranging and illuminating multiple LEDs in specific patterns, it can display numerals from 0 to 9 as well as other simple characters. Today, this display method has become a mainstream solution for digital readouts. It is characterized by its simple structure, low cost, long lifespan, high brightness, wide viewing angle, and mature, stable technology. Furthermore, when used in conjunction with driver chips such as the 74HC595 or MAX7219, it can effectively save I/O pins and microcontroller resources.

Product Introduction

4-digit and 8-digit segment displays are now popular digital display solutions, commonly seen in both engineering products and DIY projects. They use high-brightness LEDs, providing a wider viewing angle and maintaining high clarity even from a distance. Each module integrates two 74HC595 chips — one controlling the digits and the other controlling the display positions. These chips are connected in series, which saves a large number of I/O pins, reduces the developer’s I/O allocation burden, and lowers the MCU’s driving current. The module supports a wide operating voltage range of 3.3V–5V, ensuring compatibility with most application scenarios.

TM1637 version

The TM1637 version uses the TM1637 chip as its core driver, which can control a 4-digit common cathode display with just a single chip. It has a built-in clock, data latch, and display driving circuitry, and supports adjustable brightness. Communication with the main controller is achieved through only two signal lines — CLK (clock) and DIO (data) — greatly reducing I/O pin usage. Compared with the 74HC595 version, it features simpler wiring and more functions, but also requires a higher level of programming skill.
