Product Introduction

The KA2284 is a high-efficiency and user-friendly level indicator integrated circuit, suitable for various audio systems and measuring devices. With a simple peripheral circuit design, it enables intuitive and accurate level indication. Its features including high gain, low noise, wide supply voltage range and logarithmic indication make it perform excellently in practical applications.

Working Principle

The KA2284 level module is equipped with 5 LED level indicator lamps. Different input voltages (high and low) are converted to drive the sequential lighting of the 5 LEDs, with the activation sequence as follows: all off → D1 on → D2 on → D3 on → D4 on → D5 on. The louder the input audio, the more LEDs light up; the softer the audio, the fewer LEDs light up. The LEDs flash in sync with the music rhythm.

The core components of this module may include high-precision voltage or current detection circuits, which can accurately measure input signals and convert the detection results into signals for controlling the indicators. In addition, it may also incorporate filtering and amplification circuits to ensure excellent measurement performance is maintained even in the presence of various environmental noises.

Signal Wiring

Power connection: Connect module VCC to the positive pole of 5V/12V DC power supply, GND to the negative pole. No LEDs light up after power-on (normal state when no signal is input).

Audio level indication

  • Mono connection: Connect either the left or right channel of the audio output to the module’s IN terminal, and connect the audio GND to the module’s GND.Common ground is mandatory; otherwise, noise will occur and the indication will flicker erratically.
  • Stereo connection: First parallel the left and right channels (connect the positive poles together and the negative poles together), then connect to the module’s IN and GND for overall volume indication.
  • Complete wiring, power on the module, play audio, and the LEDs will flicker in sync with the volume.

Power indicator

  • Signal preprocessing: The battery voltage to be detected (e.g. 3.7V lithium battery, 12V storage battery) must be voltage-divided; take 1/2~1/3 of the voltage and connect it to the module IN. (Example: A 3.7V lithium battery in series with two 10KΩ resistors for voltage division, connect the middle node to IN).

For KA2284, the maximum withstand voltage of input signal ≤ that of power supply; the signal shall not exceed module VCC after voltage division, otherwise the chip will be burned out.

  • Signal wiring: Connect the voltage-divided sampling terminal to the module IN, and connect the battery negative pole to the module GND.
  • After power-on, all 5 LEDs light up when the battery is fully charged, and turn off gradually when the battery is low.

  • Signal amplification: In audio equipment or sensor signal conditioning, the KA2284 can amplify weak input signals to a level range suitable for subsequent processing.
