Pin of L298N module

12V Input is the power input interface, which is used for an external power supply to the L298N.

5V Output is the power output interface, which can be used to supply power to the Arduino microcontroller.

The GND interface is a ground level interface, which can be used to connect to the negative terminal (GND) of the power supply or the GND of the Arduino.

IN(1,2,3,4) is the input port of signal, which can be used to connect to the signal output port of Arduino, raspberry pi and other microcontrollers to control the high and low levels of the output, thereby controlling the forward and reverse rotation of the motor.

OUT A and OUT B are output ports, which can be used to connect to the motor. Enable is the enable port, high level is valid. Only when 5V voltage is connected, the output port work.

When the power input (marked as+12V or VCC on the board) is 7V-12V, the integrated circuit is powered by the 78M05 integrated circuit, and at this time, the +5V in the port is the power output of the module.

Notes: not to connect other power supply at this time, only power supply to other equipment, such as Arduino microcontroller, etc.

When the driving voltage is higher than 12v (Although the manual of 78M05 integrated circuit states that it can support up to 35V, but based on experience, the max. voltage for conservative applications of 78M05 up to 24V has already reached the limit, and higher voltage may lead to overheating and burnout! So normally when the voltage exceeds 12V, a power supply from logic judgment is provided to the L298N integrated circuit separately. At this time, you need to pull up the input jumper cap of 78M05 and connect a 5V power supply from +5V separately).

Notes

1.The power supply must not be reversed! The power supply must not be reversed! The power supply must not be reversed! 

2.If a separate external power supply is required for the 5V logic power supply of L298N, please connect the GND of the microcontroller, the GND of the L298N and the GND or negative pole of the power supply together, to ensure the stability of the signal.

3.The rated current of the power supply must be two times higher than the rated current of the module, in order to prevent the power supply from being overloaded with excessive current during motor startup.

4.Before reversing the motor, please stop it for 100ms and then startup. Otherwise the induced electromotive force generated by the motor operation may breakdown the module.

5.If used in a humid environment, please check whether the circuit is rust and short circuit in advance. And if conditions permit, please used in a good heat dissipation environment.

6.The L298N on-board 5V enable interface is not used normally, so do not pull up its jumper cap.
